Officials: 1 dead, 7 victims hurt in church shooting

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A masked gunman entered a church in Tennessee on Sunday and opened hearth, killing at the very least one individual and injuring seven others earlier than apparently capturing himself, an official stated.

Don Aaron, spokesman for the Metro Nashville Police Division, stated the gunman arrived on the parking zone as providers have been ending on the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ within the neighborhood of Antioch. The suspect fatally shot a lady who was strolling to her car, then entered the rear of the church, and 6 individuals have been shot. Aaron says a churchgoer who confronted the gunman was pistol-whipped by the suspect, who then shot himself.

The gunman and 5 others have been handled for gunshot wounds at Vanderbilt College Medical Middle, Aaron stated. One gunshot sufferer and the person who was pistol-whipped have been taken to Skyline Medical Middle for remedy.

Aaron stated the situation of the suspect, in his 20s and from Rutherford County, wasn’t believed to be life-threatening. He was beneath police guard. His identify was not instantly launched.

Aaron stated he was “not conscious” of any relationship between the alleged gunman and any of the worshippers contained in the church. Congregants who witnessed the shootings have been being interviewed by investigators.

The small, yellow brick church describes itself on its web site as a “pleasant, Bible based mostly group of parents who love the Lord and are concerned with spreading His Phrase to those that are misplaced.”
